Writer’s instructions
Insights is a publication directed toward a broad audience; therefore, the language used must be clear, easy to understand, and accessible to readers outside your field.
- Headlines and Subheadings: Create a headline that attracts interest. You may include subheadings to structure your text.
- Headnote: Begin your text with a headnote of no more than three sentences.
- Text Length: The recommended text length varies depending on the text type. The maximum character count for the specific text type will be indicated in your writer’s invitation. For most text types, the maximum length is 3,000 characters, including spaces.
- Citations: To reference others’ work, include their full name in the text and add a bibliography at the end of your submission. For example: “As Diane Otto has argued in her article ‘Critically Queer.’”
- Author Presentation and Photo: Attach a brief author bio (2–3 sentences) and a photo of yourself as part of your submission. For example: “The author is… / I research…” If you would like your photo published with your text, please attach it to the email along with any relevant links to your online presence.
- Keywords: Include up to three keywords at the end of your text.
- Related Works: If you have written about the topic elsewhere, you may add a link to a related scientific article at the end of your submission.
- Pictures and Media: If you wish to include pictures, use only material you have the rights to publish. Photos and illustrations should be delivered in JPEG format along with your text. If you are interested in submitting other media formats, such as videos or podcasts, please contact the editor-in-chief.
- Submissions: Please send your submission to insights@utu.fi.
